Assumptions & References
- Space-per-person standards follow IACC (International Association of Conference Centres) and ASAE industry guidelines.
- NFPA 101 Life Safety Code (Assembly Occupancy) mandates a minimum of 7 sq ft per person for net floor area — this calculator enforces this as a hard cap.
- Aisle & clearance factor accounts for perimeter walkways, service aisles, emergency egress paths, and head-table or stage setback.
- Banquet rounds: 60-inch tables seat 8 comfortably (28.3 sq ft footprint); 72-inch tables seat 10 (40.7 sq ft footprint).
- Cabaret style uses 48-inch rounds with chairs on 3 sides only (5–6 guests), leaving one side open toward a stage.
- Unusable area should include: permanent fixtures, built-in bars, stages, dance floors, buffet stations, and ADA clearance zones.
- Local fire marshal approval is required for final occupancy loads; this calculator provides planning estimates only.
- ADA compliance (28 CFR Part 36) may further reduce effective capacity depending on accessible seating requirements.
